Gary Ellis
Gary Ellis is a 30-year veteran of policing, spending most of his career in Toronto. He retired in 2007 at the rank of Superintendent. His executive police positions include being the Unit Commander of the Toronto Homicide Squad, Sex Crimes Unit, Drug Squad, and Operational Support. His background also includes Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, Community Response, Toronto Police College-Section Head/Instructor, Street Crime Unit, Major Crime Unit, and various uniform functions. He currently owns his own consulting business focusing on strategic corporate solutions, information security, executive leadership education, risk management, education, and investigations. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in the school of business and information technology where he instructs on cyber crime at the graduate level. He is also currently contracted to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as the facilitator of the National Executive Development Program through the Canadian Police College. Gary has extensive experience in international investigations and training and is a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Gary has three published works and written numerous training materials as well as policies and procedures dealing with a vast array of subjects. He has been a featured subject in four published books, and numerous media articles and documentaries. He has also been a keynote speaker at The Institute of World Politics in Washington, FBI National Academy Valedictorian, House of Commons Canada, Canadian Senate, Community Policing Management Program ’96, Leadership ’97, and numerous higher education and community forums. He has spoken, and provided training, to private corporations and the executive leadership of many police and non-police agencies on a vast array of leadership and security issues. Gary’s education includes a Doctorate (PhD) in Educational Leadership from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts Degree from Royal Roads University in Leadership and Training, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Waterloo, a diploma in Law and Security from Seneca College, and a variety of certifications in topics such as Adult Education and Mediation. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.
