Beverley Paton
Director

After graduating with a business degree from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, Beverley Paton's passion for marketing and advertising landed her positions at Vickers & Benson and Saatchi & Saatchi where she quickly climbed the ranks to senior management on the Proctor & Gamble business. But after realizing there was more to life than debating the spots and stains challenges of laundry and dish soap, Beverley soon set out to form her own company in 1993 called Paton Marketing Resources Inc. As one of Canada’s first youth marketing agencies, the company focused on the production of high impact, educational programs for kids at a time when this age group was largely ignored.

Then in 1998, Paton launched POP! Magazine, a highly successful in-school publication that targeted the newly labelled “tween” category. Through POP!, Paton quickly gained credibility within the youth community. In 1999, she formed a partnership with YTV in the launch of Whoa! Magazine and became the exclusive publisher of NHL PowerPlay – the official youth magazine of the NHL and NHLPA. In the fall of 2004, The Grind Magazine was launched through high schools across Canada.

Paton Publishing’s solid reputation with schools and school boards across Canada has since earned them the respect to develop successful in-school programs for the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Florida Marlins, BIC Stationery, the Montreal Canadiens, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Columbus Blue Jackets all across North America. Paton has also custom published magazines for Eaton’s, Swiss Chalet, West 49, The Hockey Company and Cara Foods.

Beverley has supported and continues to support many youth initiatives such as Earth Day Canada, National Kids Day, Kids Help Phone, Concerned Children’s Advertisers, and Advertising Standards Canada. She is now the Director of Kids' Outreach for Kinsa.

In the fall of 2005, Beverley sold her business to Metroland Media Group Ltd, a division of TorStar. Her new role as President & Founder of Paton Publishing sees her acquiring businesses that will help foster faster stronger growth. Hockey Now, a grassroots hockey magazine that’s distributed in more than 800 arenas nationally is the first of many more acquisitions. Paton has now earned the reputation as the largest youth publisher in Canada.
