Madam Justice Lauren Marshall
Ontario Court of Justice
Before she became a judge, Madam Justice Marshall was a widely respected defence lawyer. She has an assiduous knowledge of civil rights and civil liberties, and knows there is an important balance between the rights of victims and the rights of accused persons that must be maintained, even in the face of the most horrible crimes. And she makes sure that balance is respected with every search warrant she signs. She has quietly met with police officers countless times outside the judicial work day. She has generously made herself available when the need arises to authorize a search warrant, day or night, weekdays or weekends.
