Tanya Deurvorst Smith has been an integral member of the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect program at the Hospital for Sick Children since 1995.  As a Nurse Practitioner and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner she provides medical evaluations of children and adolescents where sexual abuse/assault is suspected.  Tanya is actively involved in the development and program planning for the paediatric sexual assault initiative for the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault Care Centers and has provided leadership and training to centers across the province.  Tanya’s dedication and perseverance in a difficult environment continues to improve the lives of children.
